Personality

● A bit boyish, strong-willed and persistent. Once she makes up her mind, no one can stop her.
● Due to the treatment she received from the orphanage, she has a hard time making friends. It takes her a while to open up to the people around her and to learn to trust them.
● She treasures those whom she considers her friends and is very protective of them.
● A bit reserved, she prefers to be alone most of the time, but also enjoys and appreciates the company of her friends.
● She acts tough but she actually has a soft spot for cute and fluffy things. She won’t admit it, but whenever she summons her monsters, they usually blow her cover. Don’t underestimate those cute little creatures, though. They ironically pack a heavy punch!
● She doesn't like to talk much… unless she’s in an argument.
● She finds it difficult to adjust to new things so as much as possible, she would stick to things that she’s used to. The first time she boarded the Embassy, she had motion-sickness because it was the first time she ever boarded a ship – and this ship in particular is a flying one at that.


Background:

As an infant, she was left at an orphanage in Maristaed, a town in Inryllia. However, the people who run the orphanage didn’t seem to like her for some unknown reason and she was treated like a servant girl even at such a young age. Fortunately, by the age of seven, she was adopted by a rich immigrant (originally from Sylviathan) named Basil Ambercrest. At first, the director of the orphanage refused to let him adopt the girl – she was considered a servant, not a child for adoption. However, Basil insisted that he be allowed to take the girl as his daughter and was even willing to pay a large sum of money for her. In the end, the director had to surrender to Basil’s persistence and hand him the adoption papers.

Basil was a rather doting father to Cerise. He provided her with everything she needed and made sure that she was healthy and satisfied. It was such a huge change for her that at first she felt a bit uncomfortable when she received gifts from her adoptive father. But as time passed, she began to understand that her father truly loved her very dearly and she began to appreciate the things that Basil did for her.

A few months passed and Basil realized why the orphanage had treated her so badly – Cerise was Mage. Since the orphanage was under the influence of the Church, it was obvious why they felt that way towards children who can innately use Black Magic. Cerise had also expressed how much she wanted to learn magic at the Academy but Basil refused for some reason. However, Cerise’s persistence was not to be taken lightly. In the end Basil had to grant her wish and enroll her in the town’s Magic Academy. Cerise was thrilled! A few of the things that the Academy taught aside from magic were potions making and how to summon monsters, which happened to be Cerise's favorite subjects. She even befriended the cute monsters that she was able to summon! She studied diligently and was at the top of her class in no time and later discovered that she was especially talented in Alchemy so she decided to focus on that field of magic.

Years pass. Cerise is now eighteen years old and will be graduating from the Magic Academy soon. Her father was very proud of her. Everything seemed to go well until one day a mysterious man attempted to kill Cerise while she was on her way home. Fortunately, Cerise was able to defend herself well using her summoned monsters, but as weeks passed the number of attempts on her life also increased. There was even a time when she was attacked by a group of mercenaries all at once! Luckily, she was able to escape with only a dagger wound on her left arm. Because of this incident she was reminded that though she may be strong when it comes to magic, she is actually rather weak physically. Her monsters realized this as well, and because of this, they have become overly protective of her.

They soon found out that these assassins and mercenaries were sent by a man who had a deep grudge against Basil. It was then revealed that Basil’s real name was Gilbert Gwyddien and that he used to work under a noble from Sylviathan as an Alchemist. He brewed the most potent poisons that leave no trace in the body – an effective way to murder someone and make it seem like an accident. The noble rose quickly in rank because of Basil’s help. However his crimes were soon discovered and this led to the death of his wife and daughter. He deeply regretted everything that he had done and escaped to Inryllia to start anew. It was then that he swore to himself to never use Alchemy or Magic ever again.

Fearing for the life of his second daughter he sought the help of a certain red-haired pirate captain and asked her to take Cerise aboard her flying ship in order to protect her. Of course, Cerise strongly opposed the idea, so he had to put a sleeping potion on her drink. When she finally woke up, she was already aboard the Embassy.

● Crystals and crystal phials. She spends most of her money on these. She actually has a small collection of these which she keeps in a glass cupboard in her room.

● Liars and traitors
● People who tease her about her summoned monsters
● Having to adjust to a new environment
● Rice Porridge – since she always had to eat this at the orphanage

Additional Info:
● Despite the rough treatment that she received from the orphanage, she ironically had shiny, shoulder-length hair which gave the impression that she was well groomed despite her tattered clothes. Basil was so fond of this feature of hers that he decided to name her after the striking color of her hair, Cerise.
● Though she has made a few friends who are Priests and the like, Cerise still generally feels uncomfortable towards other members of the Church.
Cerise considers her monsters as friends and she cares for them very much (since they're so cute!). Because of her kindness to them, they have become very loyal to her. Just like any other magic user, Cerise was rather physically weak, so her monsters are very protective of her.
● Cerise names her monsters after colors (i.e., Cobalt, Alizarin, Sienna, Swamp, Cadmium, Umber and Buff).
● Though she hardly helps out in kitchen duties, she’s actually an excellent cook.
● The reason that Basil wanted to adopt Cerise so badly was because she closely resembled his deceased daughter. He made her keep her hair at shoulder-length even though Cerise wanted to grow out her hair because his real daughter had the same hair style.
● Cerise was very grateful for the kindness that her father has shown her that’s why she also wanted to protect him. This was the reason why she wanted to learn magic and alchemy at the Academy.
● Cerise found an Amethyst encrusted golden ring and a letter from Basil on her bedside table the day she woke up on the Embassy. In the letter, Basil wrote how sorry he was and that he only wanted to protect her because he loved her dearly.
● The Amethyst is also known as the Protection Stone. In Alchemy gold is attributed to the Sun.
● Amaranthe is taken from the name of the flower Amanranth, also known as “the unfading flower”.
● Chrysopoeia means “transmutation into gold” in alchemy.
● At first, Cerise disliked the Air Junkies especially their captain, Ran. She tries to escape at every opportunity she gets though in the end, someone always finds her and carries her back to the ship. Her opinion regarding The Air Junkies changes after she finds out about the Vexai Virus and Ran’s goal to save the World Tree. Ran gains her respect and admiration because of this.
● Cerise’s new goal is to help Ran in every possible way that she could in order to save the World Tree. She believes that by doing this, she can also protect people she cares for the most, specifically her father.
